On Friday, September 25th, the San Diego Black Nurses Association, in partnership with the San Diego Immunization Coalition and AARP San Diego Metro Chapter, 4916 conducted a Community Flu Shot Clinic and Media Kick off event. The clinic was held at the Martin Luther King Community Center on Skyline Drive. The event was a tremendous success-nearly 400 persons received seasonal flu shots, breaking the previous year’s record of just over 200. Radio Latina was instrumental in helping to promote the event, which attracted local and regional media outlets such as KGTV Ch. 10, San Diego Union Tribune newspaper, and the Univision Hispanic TV channel.
There was also a press conference sponsored by community partners and the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency. Speakers included Dr. Dean Sidelinger, County Deputy Public Health Officer; Syvera Hardy from the San Diego Black Nurses Association; Dr. Josef B. Zwass, a pediatrician from Kaiser Permanente; Dr. William P. Hitchcock, a pediatrician with La Jolla Pediatrics and Dr. Mark Sawyer, Medical Director of the San Diego Immunization Partnership and a member of the San Diego Immunization Coalition.
