Influenza Season 2018-19

Flu season is a busy and challenging time for healthcare providers. In addition to the increased workload, there is always important new information about influenza disease and the vaccines available to protect against it. This page contains information and resources to help you and your staff as you care for your patients.

As always, you and your staff need flu vaccine, too. CDC, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), and the Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) recommend that all U.S. health care workers get vaccinated annually against influenza.

In addition to protecting your own health, you are protecting your patients' health by making sure you and your staff are immunized.

You and your staff also play an important role in helping your patients make good choices about their health--like the choice to get flu vaccine.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website has a large section devoted to information and resources just for healthcare providers. Visit the main CDC influenza Information for Health Professionals page here.

The page, which is updated as needed, includes links to:

and much more.

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) maintains a section of its Influenza information web page titled Information for Health Professionals. Links to information include an Influenza Vaccine Identification Guide, masking requirements, flu prevention education materials, and more.

CDPH's EZIZ website is the source for immunization training and resources for California's Vaccines For Children Program. The site features a number of flu-related resources, including a page with Flu and Respiratory Disease Prevention Promotional Materials links. There are also links to a wide variety of general immunization information and resources, including Vaccine Storage and Handling and Training.

Influenza Vaccine Information Statements (VISs)
The CDC has stated that the VISs used for the 2015-16 influenza season should be used for the 2018-19 season and future seasons, until there is a significant change in flu recommendations that will require changing them. Use the links below to view and download the VIS:
